Nine Weeks
I have always dreamed about living and working abroad and for nine weeks the dream became a reality. The experience I had was above and beyond my expectations.Volunteering at Our Cabaña was the best thing I have done. I wanted to volunteer in a World Centre because I knew from being involved in Guiding that WAGGGS was special, but, I never anticipated the huge influence Our Cabaña would have on not only the people who visit for sessions but for staff and the local community.
It is obvious that the WAGGGS mission is being achieved in every aspect of life at the Cabaña, this itself is fantastic to see but being part of a team making that happen for others is extremely fulfilling and the benefits are reciprocated. I have met, worked and lived with people from places I never heard or met before and learned so much from them about culture and Guiding and Scouting practices. I have so many new ideas to take home to my unit.
I am really excited to get back to my weekly meetings. I have also made new friends and, as a result, new opportunities have opened up to me. I have also spent nine weeks in a beautiful country with a strong and proud cultural identity. I love Mexico. I have worked with some inspirational staff and felt at home in their company. I am devastated to be leaving but equally happy to have had this opportunity. Right now I consider myself to be one of the luckiest people alive, I feel truly honored to have been here. I hope millions more follow in my footstep and feel how I feel. Our Cabaña really is a magical place.
