Mexico
Mexico is a land of contrast. It is a land of colour, sights, sounds, and smells. Mexico is appealing to everyone.
It is a country of over 82 million people, with one quarter of them living in the capital, Mexico City. It is a land of deserts, mountains, crashing waves, high plateaus and flat lands. There are breath taking canyons, abundant wildlife, and colourful flowers. It is a land of sunshine ... and rain.
Mexico’s history is as diverse as its landscape and offers a rich heritage for all to share. The pre-Columbian civilizations of the Olmecs, the Mayas, the Toltecs, and the Aztecs blend with the colonization by Spain in 1519 and subsequent independence in 1821 to form a culture that is uniquely Mexican.
Our Cabaña will start your exploration of this culture and open your eyes to the fascinating heritage that is Mexico today. Mexico is too vast to see in two or three weeks, but you will see enough to tempt you back for more.
Cuernavaca
Cuernavaca, home to Our Cabana and also known as the City of Eternal Spring, has plenty for you to see and do during your visit.
Sights include Cortes' Palace, the 16th Century Cathedral, and the Jardin Borda which was once home to Emporer Maximilian.
There is also the home of American art collector Robert Brady, which is now a museum, and of course the craft market where you can hunt for a bargain and the zocalo, or main square where you can soak up the atmosphere.
Tepoztlan
Tepoztlan is a small, traditional Mexican market town nestled in the foothills of the Sierra Madre moutains. It is approximately 45 minutes from Our Cabaña by bus.
The bustling craft and food market is open every Sunday and attracts visitors and tourists from across Mexico. The Cathedral and Monastery in the centre of town, and are entered through the beautiful seed gate, which depicts the history of the town.
Xochicalco
Xochicalco archaeological site is a spectacular pyramid village situated on a hill overlooking the valley below.
There is a ceremonial plaza, the pyramid of the plumed serpent, an ancient ball court, and a network of caves.
It is also possible to visit the site museum, and the observatory which has been modified for current use.

Taxco

Taxco is an old colonial town high in the mountains, and is also considered the silver capital of Mexico.
The narrow, cobbled streets and traditional houses with white walls and red roofs make the town very picturesque.
You can spend your time browsing the silver shops, visiting the craft market, touring the beautiful church of Santa Prisca, or just relaxing and enjoying this beautiful Mexican city.
Puebla & Cholula
Puebla is Mexico’s 4th largest city and is approximately 3 hours from Our Cabaña by bus.
Puebla is famous for its Tala Vera Pottery and its traditional Mexican dish called "Mole" which is a chicken dish with a spicy, chili chocolate sauce.
Puebla has a famous arts and crafts market called El Parian which has plenty of things to look at and buy. There are traditional crafts specifically from the local area, made by local art workers.
About 1/2 an hour from Puebla is Cholula which is home to the largest pyramid in the Americas. It doesn’t appear that way as it is covered in a grassy mound and has the beautiful church of Nuestra Señora de los Remedios situated on the top. There are tunnels built underneath and also a museum. Cholula is said to have more churches in the town than days of the year.
