October 27 - November 4
Mexican Festivals & Traditions - Day of the Dead -Adults-

This eight night event will focus on Mexican traditions, particularly the Day of the Dead . In this most characteristic celebration, the souls of the dead are believed to return to earth on November 2. Families build altars in their homes and visit graveyards to commune with their dead, taking garlands and gifts of the dead one’s favourite foods and objects. A happy atmosphere prevails. Flowers are used in profusion, especially marigolds which have had ceremonial importance since before Spanish times.

As the Day of the Dead approaches, shops and markets fill with countless toy coffins and paper, cardboard and clay skeletons, many of them engaged in lively activities such as riding a bicycle, playing music, or getting married. Most amazing are the rows of chocolate and candy skulls, skeletons, and coffins that appear in market stalls -- an obvious indication of the almost joyful nature of the festival, which reunites the living with their dead. You will see skull and skeleton motifs everywhere -- devices which the Mexicans use to continually remind themselves of their own mortality.
